DJ MARKET TALK: Sell EUR/USD Rallies; L/T Rally Nearly Done - UBS

EUR's long-term rally nearing end, says UBS, noting structural, cyclical picture has shifted substantially over past 5 years: EUR now at historically high levels, U.S. trade deficits stabilizing, central bank reserve diversification maturing, global liquidity growth easing, and European policymakers concerned about EUR strength. If risk aversion eases near term, EUR may draw more buying temporarily as ECB hikes rates more, but "with the EUR now trading at our one- and three- month forecasts of 1.32 and 1.33, we think rallies in the single currency should now be sold as the EUR starts to peak against the USD."

Royal Bank of Scotland looks for the USD to make a broad-based recovery, with GBP/USD leading the way. The rate has already tested the significant 1.9265-35 support zone and a close for the week below the latter should complete a longer-term topping formation, opening the way for a more pronounced decline toward 1.8820 and 1.8480. EUR/USD is expected to follow cable's lead, with a break below 1.3015 targeting 1.27 ahead of 1.25. Cable now at 1.9235, EUR/USD at 1.3130

Hope you are well. Interesting to see your comments on the eur/usd pair. For now the mid term view I have key support around the 2970-80 and 2700-10 area for now which match pretty closely your number. In the meantime this pair is bullish and many barriers to break before these numbers come in to the radar IMHO. Peace and GT

van Gecko 07:18 GMT March 2, 2007 || Quite possible! Interesting that Nerb's comments yesterday were dismissed or quite simply fell on deaf ears. With the certainty of another ECB rate hike this month and another one almost 'baked in the cake', is it fair to say that and end of the ECB tightening cycle is quite probable?

Shenzhen Laowen 03:27 happy Golden Pig year to you too..
after last year's Thanksgiving spike, Euro & cousin GBP had gone nowhere for the last 4 months while mid-term bull's profits are eroded by negative carry..
however, the good news is that after running up to mid/long term tops in Q4/Q1, there's good odds for bulls to be rewarded with year long buying opportunities to crack the old highs from substantially lower levels..
s/t opportunities for patient Europhiles & GBP bulls are @ 1.2688 & 1.8989/1.8888 with more year long bargains on sustained break below..

Your call on Gbp/Chf SOB flying for 2.4 from 2.23 was so wonderful.
Happy Golden Pig year and good trades!

van Gecko 23:48 GMT March 1, 2007

Van Gecko, glad to see back. We always appreciate your comments. A few weeks ago you were expecting a pullback on Gold. Now at 680, what do you expect, is it a real break or you thing it will take a dive like copper a couple weeks ago. Thanks.

Short the Dollar against Japan & others had been a very popular theme.. nothing new under the rising sun.. a great environment for pip'less enlargement make easy spammers with "Shorty_titist" so wide spread in fx'land..

the only OVERVALUED currency here is the USD....
short usd stop 150 pips away reward in long time 1500 pips against any major....

Simon Derrick, a senior currency strategist at Bank of New York in London, points to the extreme levels of short-yen position which make the dollar/yen highly vulnerable to a sharp reversal.

"Euro/Yen->155.08
Euro->1.2918
Dollar/Yen->120.08
Dollar & carry kicks in again..
Euro break below year low & Europhiles get to buy some cheap Euroo @ 1.2738
Dollar/Yen rise with it's Crosses for 122.88 while Euro & cousin GBP search for more joy.."

looks like Europhiles & Yenophobes don't have to wait too long now for their 1.2738 & 122.88 targets.. as for those who like to keep an eye on the snoozy fx screen while relaxing in the John, a dream come true ;)

Pimped out John sweepstakes, a dream come true for those who like to safe guard their hard earned pips from flushing down the drain while relaxing in the John?

Oil man.. speculative trades or corporate hedging range noises is still "PorkChopTitist Trading".. may be some of those names had breeded an army of rare "trading monkeys" who can consistently pick the daily range highs & lows locked up inside their trading room..

may be 2005's 1.25 equality is now 1.27.. where the Conti proxy twins kiss & say goodbye to each other in 2007.. ? ;)

ab.. no change for your yellow metal as it is still capped in range & struggling to stay above the 21 & 50week ma..

Cannes Oil man 09:57 GMT January 26, 2007
Anyways i think could see an equality , Gecko :

1.2725 ...$CHF ///EURO$ !!

Cannes Oil man 09:53 GMT January 26, 2007
Gecko, there's not only speculative trades done on forex...Remember corporates needs to do daily things..

hk ab 09:31 GMT January 26, 2007
Gecko, do you still seeing the accident on gold?

van Gecko 09:21 GMT January 26, 2007
Oil man 08:40.. may be those names need more time to prefect the "Art of PorkChopTitist Trading" ?

Cannes Oil man 08:40 GMT January 26, 2007
Gecko, the names could hold the ranges if they really wanted too...
However the good news is some previous bull names are now going out..
Would be nice to buy E$ at 1.27xx , they are probably thinking ?:)

Euro is diving in morning session of Europe.
Europhiles w'd be better take concern not to counter trade it till afternoon session of Europe.
Level, better see Gecko's yesterday post. GLGT.

Sovereign "bids" are not created equal.. they come in various size & temperaments & are just as capable in h'issing good dollars against the wind as the fishes..
Sovereign traders for the Mongolian CB once lost all of their forex reserves.. guess horse trading is a lot less risky then trading forex..

Cannes Oil man 05:28 GMT January 26, 2007
Today might see a move and an end to the range, and with some luck be able to pick up some 1.2780 longs in e$..

Really depends if cb's keep protecting the beloved euro's..Though the side has been testing so many times , that this time im going to go with it.
